मंत्र विद्या का प्रयोग भगवान की भक्ति, ब्रह्मज्ञान प्राप्ति, दैवीय कृपा प्राप्त करने के साथ ही सांसारिक एवं भौतिक सुख-सुविधाओं, धन प्राप्त करने की इच्छा के लिए भी किया जा सकता है।
ये है गायत्री मंत्र: ऊँ भूर्भुव: स्व: तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि धियो यो न: प्रचोदयात्।
शास्त्रों के अनुसार गायत्री मंत्र को वेदों को सर्वश्रेष्ठ मंत्र बताया गया है। इस मंत्र जप के लिए तीन समय बताए गए हैं। इन तीन समय को संध्याकाल भी कहा जाता हैं। गायत्री मंत्र का जप का पहला समय है प्रात:काल, सूर्योदय से थोड़ी देर पहले मंत्र जप शुरू किया जाना चाहिए। जप सूर्योदय के पश्चात तक करना चाहिए।
मंत्र जप के लिए दूसरा समय है दोपहर मध्यान्ह का। दोपहर में भी इस मंत्र का जप किया जाता है। इसके बाद तीसरा समय है शाम को सूर्यास्त के कुछ देर पहले मंत्र जप शुरू करके सूर्यास्त के कुछ देर बाद तक जप करना चाहिए। इन तीन समय के अतिरिक्त यदि गायत्री मंत्र का जप करना हो तो मौन रहकर या मानसिक रूप से जप करना चाहिए। मंत्र जप अधिक तेज आवाज में नहीं करना चाहिए।

गायत्री मंत्र-
ऊँ भूर्भुव: स्व: तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि। धियो यो न: प्रचोदयात्।।
गायत्री मंत्र का अर्थ: सृष्टिकर्ता प्रकाशमान परामात्मा के तेज का हम ध्यान करते है, वह परमात्मा का तेज हमारी बुद्धि को सद्मार्ग की ओर चलने के लिए प्रेरित करें।
शास्त्रों में इसके जाप की विधि विस्तृत रूप से दी गई हैं। इस मंत्र को जाप करने के लिए रुद्राक्ष की माला का प्रयोग करना श्रेष्ठ होता है।

इस मंत्र के जप से हमें यह दस लाभ प्राप्त होते हैं...
उत्साह एवं सकारात्मकता, त्वचा में चमक आती है, तामसिकता से घृणा होती है, परमार्थ में रूचि जागती है, पूर्वाभास होने लगता है, आर्शीवाद देने की शक्ति बढ़ती है, नेत्रों में तेज आता है, स्वप्र सिद्धि प्राप्त होती है, क्रोध शांत होता है, ज्ञान की वृद्धि होती है।

विद्यार्थीयों के लिए-
गायत्री मंत्र का जप सभी के लिए उपयोगी है किंतु विद्यार्थियों के लिए तो यह मंत्र बहुत लाभदायक है। रोजाना इस मंत्र का एक सौ आठ बार जप करने से विद्यार्थी को सभी प्रकार की विद्या प्राप्त करने में आसानी होती है। विद्यार्थियों को पढऩे में मन नहीं लगना, याद किया हुआ भूल जाना, शीघ्रता से याद न होना आदि समस्याओं से निजात मिल जाती है।

दरिद्रता के नाश के लिए-
यदि किसी व्यक्ति के व्यापार, नौकरी में हानि हो रही है या कार्य में सफलता नहीं मिलती, आमदनी कम है तथा व्यय अधिक है तो उन्हें गायत्री मंत्र का जप काफी फायदा पहुंचाता है। शुक्रवार को पीले वस्त्र पहनकर हाथी पर विराजमान गायत्री माता का ध्यान कर गायत्री मंत्र के आगे और पीछे श्रीं सम्पुट लगाकर जप करने से दरिद्रता का नाश होता है। इसके साथ ही रविवार को व्रत किया जाए तो ज्यादा लाभ होता है।

संतान संबंधी परेशानियां दूर करने के लिए...
किसी दंपत्ति को संतान प्राप्त करने में कठिनाई आ रही हो या संतान से दुखी हो अथवा संतान रोगग्रस्त हो तो प्रात: पति-पत्नी एक साथ सफेद वस्त्र धारण कर यौं बीज मंत्र का सम्पुट लगाकर गायत्री मंत्र का जप करें। संतान संबंधी किसी भी समस्या से शीघ्र मुक्ति मिलती है।

शत्रुओं पर विजय प्राप्त करने के लिए...
यदि कोई व्यक्ति शत्रुओं के कारण परेशानियां झेल रहा हो तो उसे प्रतिदिन या विशेषकर मंगलवार, अमावस्या अथवा रविवार को लाल वस्त्र पहनकर माता दुर्गा का ध्यान करते हुए गायत्री मंत्र के आगे एवं पीछे क्लीं बीज मंत्र का तीन बार सम्पुट लगाकार एक सौ आठ बार जाप करने से शत्रुओं पर विजय प्राप्त होती है। मित्रों में सद्भाव, परिवार में एकता होती है तथा न्यायालयों आदि कार्यों में भी विजय प्राप्त होती है।

विवाह कार्य में देरी हो रही हो तो...
यदि किसी भी जातक के विवाह में अनावश्यक देरी हो रही हो तो सोमवार को सुबह के समय पीले वस्त्र धारण कर माता पार्वती का ध्यान करते हुए ह्रीं बीज मंत्र का सम्पुट लगाकर एक सौ आठ बार जाप करने से विवाह कार्य में आने वाली समस्त बाधाएं दूर होती हैं। यह साधना स्त्री पुरुष दोनों कर सकते हैं।

यदि किसी रोग के कारण परेशानियां हो तो...
यदि किसी रोग से परेशान है और रोग से मुक्ति जल्दी चाहते हैं तो किसी भी शुभ मुहूर्त में एक कांसे के पात्र में स्वच्छ जल भरकर रख लें एवं उसके सामने लाल आसन पर बैठकर गायत्री मंत्र के साथ ऐं ह्रीं क्लीं का संपुट लगाकर गायत्री मंत्र का जप करें। जप के पश्चात जल से भरे पात्र का सेवन करने से गंभीर से गंभीर रोग का नाश होता है। यही जल किसी अन्य रोगी को पीने देने से उसके भी रोग का नाश होता हैं।

जो भी व्यक्ति जीवन की समस्याओं से बहुत त्रस्त है यदि वह यह उपाय करें तो उसकी समस्याएं समाप्त हो जाएंगी। उपाय इस प्रकार है पीपल, शमी, वट, गूलर, पाकर की समिधाएं लेकर एक पात्र में कच्चा दूध भरकर रख लें एवं उस दूध के सामने एक हजार गायत्री मंत्र का जाप करें। इसके बाद एक-एक समिधा को दूध में छुआकर गायत्री मंत्र का जप करते हुए अग्रि में होम करने से समस्त परेशानियों एवं दरिद्रता से मुक्ति मिल जाती है।

किसी भी शुभ मुहूर्त में दूध, दही, घी एवं शहद को मिलाकर एक हजार गायत्री मंत्रों के साथ हवन करने से चेचक, आंखों के रोग एवं पेट के रोग समाप्त हो जाते हैं। इसमें समिधाएं पीपल की होना चाहिए। गायत्री मंत्रों के साथ नारियल का बुरा एवं घी का हवन करने से शत्रुओं का नाश हो जाता है। नारियल के बुरे मे यदि शहद का प्रयोग किया जाए तो सौभाग्य में वृद्धि होती हैं।

The devout believe that simply by bathing in the Ganges zone is freed from their past sins (karma), and thus one becomes eligible for liberation from the cycle of birth and death. Other activities include religious discussions, devotional singing, mass feeding of holy men and women and the poor, and religious assemblies where doctrines are debated and standardized. Kumbh Mela (especially the Maha Kumbh Mela) is the most sacred of all the Hindu pilgrimages. Millions of holy men and women (saints , monks, and sadhus) attend this spectacle of faith.

Kumbh's history originates from the beginning of the Creation. All devtas were under the influence of a curse that made them weak and coward, Brahma, (the creator God) advised them to churn the ocean for Amrit (Nectar), intake of which will make them immortal, devtas sough the help of demons for the purpose. gods and demons made a temporary agreement to work together in obtaining amrita (the nectar of immortality) from the Milky Ocean, and to share this equally.The Mandara Mountain was used as a churning rod, and Vasuki, the king of serpents, became the rope for churning. With the demigods at Vasuki's tail and the demons at his head, they churned the ocean for a 1,000 years. Eventually, Dhanwantari, the divine healer, appeared with the "Kumbh" containing nectar in his palms, when the Kumbha (pot) containing the amrita appeared, the demons ran away with the pot and were chased by the gods. By their joint churning Amrit was one of the resultants, found in the last. A battle ensured.For twelve days and twelve nights (equivalent to twelve human years) the gods and demons fought in the sky for the possession of this pot of amrita. It is said that during the battle, drops of amrita fell on to four places : Prayag, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nasik. Kumbha mela is observed at these four locations where the nectar fell.

Maha Kumbh is held after every twelve years, which is once in life time event, if somehow you have missed Maha Kumbh, then other option of similar significance is Ardh Kumbh which held after every 6 years.

Kumbh is held at four places.

· Prayag (near the city of Allahabad, in the state of Uttar Pradesh) at the confluence of three rivers Ganga (Ganges), Yamuna and Saraswati.

· Haridwar (in the state of Uttarakhand) where the river Ganga enters the plains from Himalayas.

· Ujjain (in Madhya Pradesh), on the banks of Ksipra river, and

· Nasik (in Maharashtra) on the banks of Godavari river.

Kumbha Mela is "the world's most massive act of faith' – the largest congregation of devotees at one place. It is believed that by bathing in the Ganges during Kumbh, one is freed from one's past sins (karma), and thus becomes eligible for liberation from the cycle of birth and death.

According to astrological calculations, the Kumbha Mela is held every twelve years and begins on Makar Sankranti, the day when the sun and moon enter Capricorn and Jupiter enters Aries. The astrological configuration on Makar Sankranti is called " Kumbhasnanayoga" and is considered to be especially auspicious, as it is said that the passage from Earth to the higher planets is open at that time, thus allowing the soul to easily attain the celestial world.
