Its actually just like Windows, where you just had to download the fonts and double click on it to install it system wide. You can double click on any font file to open the Ubuntu font viewer. Then click on Install Font to install it.

But if you want to install multiple fonts on Ubuntu, then its very time consuming to install them one by one as explained above. Fortunately its easy to install multiple fonts on Ubuntu. The exact procedure to install multiple fonts depends upon whether you want to install it for your own use, or globally for every user on the computer.

• First download the fonts you want to install on Ubuntu Linux. If the fonts you have downloaded are zipped, then first extract the fonts from the archive file.

• Now open nautilus, ‘Places > Home’ and press ‘Ctrl + H’ to make all the hidden files and folders visible.

• Now if you don’t see a hidden folder with name .fonts, then create a new folder with the name .fonts. Copy all the new fonts that you wish to install in this folder.

Now just restart the application you are currently using and you will see all the new fonts available in it. Note that the fonts will be available only to the currently logged on user. If you want to install the fonts globally, do the following.

If you want to install fonts on Ubuntu Linux globally, that is, for every user on the computer, then create a new folder with name nfonts on your desktop, and copy all the newly downloaded fonts in this folder. Make sure to extract any archived fonts.
