1 Tangerine, sectioned
1/2 Grapefruit, sliced
1 Cucumber, sliced
4 Peppermint or Spearmint Leaves
Ice, (made from purified water) optional
Mix in a pitcher before bed and drink throughout the entire next day. Please consider using organic produce for this, if it is unavailable to you, thoroughly wash the produce before adding it to the water.

इसके कई कारण हैं। कई वैज्ञानिक इस पर निरंतर शोध भी कर रहे हैं। अमेरिका जैसे विकसित देश तो इस पर लगाम लगाने की दिशा में लगातार काम कर रहे हैं। बढ़ती उम्र के साथ इंसान की प्रजनन क्षमता भी प्रभावित होती है। आमतौर पर 45 की उम्र के बाद प्रजनन की क्षमता तो प्रभावित हो ही जाती है साथ ही इस उम्र के बाद होने वाली संतानों की सेहत पर भी खासा विपरित असर पड़ता है।
मध्य आयु को पार कर पचास वर्ष से ऊपर की उम्र के लोगों के लिए एक खुश कर देने वाली खबर है। अमेरिका में हाल में ही हुआ एक शोध अध्ययन यह साबित कर रहा है कि पचास की उम्र के बाद यदि आप भोजन में पर्याप्त एंटी-आक्सीडेंट  को नहीं ले पाते हैं तो ब्रोकली ,पत्तेदार -हरी सब्जियां और टमाटर आपके लिए अच्छा विकल्प है।

शाकाहार एक बड़ा कारण...

इस शोध अध्ययन में यह देखा गया है कि पचास के पार के जो लोग भोजन में अधिक हरी पत्तेदार सब्जियां एवं शाकाहार को अपनाते हैं उनके शुक्राणु में स्थित डी.एन.ए की कड़ियों के टूटने की संभावना कम हो जाती है। ऐसा इन सब्जियों में प्रचुर मात्रा में विटामिन सी, ई, जिंक व फोलेट के कारण होता है।
हालांकि इस शोध से यह साबित तो नहीं हो पाया है कि केवल मात्र भोजन में प्रचुर मात्रा में एंटी-आक्सीडेंट का सेवन मात्रा इन संभावनाओं को कम कर देता है और इस उम्र में स्वस्थ संतान की उत्पति कर सकता है।

अगली पीढ़ियों के लिए भी खतरा...
जर्नल फर्टीलिटी एवं स्टरलेटी में प्रकाशित इस रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक शुक्राणुओं में स्थित डी.एन.ए. कड़ियों का टूटना उम्र बढऩे के साथ होने वाली एक सामान्य घटना है और इससे शुक्राणुओं की आनुवांशिक क्षमता प्रभावित होती है ,जो इस उम्र में प्रजनन द्वारा उत्पन्न संतानों में आनुवांशिक विकृतियों की संभावना को बढ़ा देती है।

हरी सब्जियां सबसे बड़ी सहायक...

सीनियर शोधकर्ता एंड्रीयु वायरोबेक का मानना है कि हरी सब्जियों सहित दूसरे अन्य कई कारण इस उम्र में  शुक्राणुओं की गुणवत्ता में परिवर्तन लाकर स्वस्थ संतान की उत्पत्ति में सहायक हो सकते हैं।
इस अध्ययन में अस्सी धूम्रपान न करने वाले 22 से 80 वर्ष के लोगों को शामिल किया गया और उनसे उनके भोजन एवं फ़ूड सप्लीमेंट्स से सम्बंधित प्रश्नावली भरवाई गई और उनके स्पर्म के सेम्पल लिए गए ।

शोध में ये तथ्य भी आए सामने...
इस शोध से यह बात साबित हुई कि पचास की उम्र के बाद इन तत्वों के सेवन को सुरक्षित स्तर तक बढ़ा कर  शुक्राणुओं के डी.एन.ए. की क्षति को कम किया जा सकता है।
विटामिन -ई. की ग्राह्य मात्रा 15 mg है और यह किसी भी हाल में 1000 mg से अधिक नहीं होनी चाहिए। ठीक इसी प्रकार जिंक की ग्राह्य मात्रा 11mg है और यह 40 mg से अधिक नहीं होनी चाहिए और फोलेट क़ी ग्राह्य आवश्यक मात्रा 400 mg है और यह 1000 mg से अधिक नहीं होनी चाहिए।
इस अध्ययन में देखा गया कि 45 की उम्र को पार कर गए लोग जो पर्याप्त मात्रा में भोजन में विटामिन-सी का सेवन कर रहे थे ,उनमे कम विटामिन-सी ले रहे लोगों की अपेक्षा शुक्राणुओं के डी.एन.ए.में बीस प्रतिशत कम टूट-फूट देखी गई।
विटामिन -सी की उच्च मात्रा ले रहे समूह के लोग लगभग एक दिन में 700 mgका सेवन कर रहे थे।
विटामिन-सी कीऔसत ग्राह्य मात्रा 90 mg मानी गयी है, लेकिन इस उम्र में 200 mg तक को सुरक्षित माना गया है। ऐसा ही कुछ विटामिन -ई, जिंक एवं फोलेट के साथ भी पाया गया।

ये चीजें रखती हैं एंटी-आक्सीडेंट लेवल को बरकरार...
जवान लोगों में एंटी-आक्सीडेंट एवं शक्राणुओं की गुणवत्ता के बीच कोई सम्बन्ध नहीं पाया गया इसका संभावित कारण इस उम्र में कम आक्सीडेंटिव तनाव होना हो सकता है।
अत: यह अध्ययन इस बात को तो साबित करता ही है कि बुढ़ापे में जवानी को बरकरार रखने का फंडा सीट्रस फल, टमाटर, हरी पत्तेदार सब्जियों जैसे ब्रोकली, फूल गोभी, पत्ता गोभी, पालक, बादाम आदि का पार्याप्त मात्रा में सेवन है।

But is it true that eating fish is good for your brain?
According to Dr. Tiffany Chow, a neurologist and scientist at Baycrest’s Rotman Research Institute, current scientific evidence links brain health to the consumption of fish, as well as other foods.
“Fish that are high in omega-3 fatty acids, like salmon, mackerel, sardines and bluefin tuna, protect against inflammation and are good for the brain,” she says. “Fish is also a good source of protein instead of red meat, which is laced with the kind of fat that gets you into trouble in the long run in terms of stroke and brain maintenance.”
Dr. Carol Greenwood, a senior scientist at Baycrest’s Kunin-Lunenfeld Applied Research Unit and professor of nutritional sciences at the University of Toronto, agrees. “You want a fattier fish, like those who inhabit cold water environments. They use their oils as a natural insulator to improve survival.”
Both Drs. Chow and Greenwood also encourage people to eat more fruits and vegetables.

Foods with a high glycemic index include the usual suspects — ice cream, chocolate, croissants, but also bananas, carrots and dried fruit — and can result in large increases in blood glucose after they are ingested.
“There are going to be special occasions when you just have to have that slice of apple pie with ice cream. But over long periods of time, if you indulge in foods with a very high glycemic index, which can cause major downswings in glucose in between, you may be increasing your risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease,” says Dr. Chow.
